Are You IN... CT? Step 1 of 7 14% We are considering bringing a class to your area! And, since we have a wide variety of option to meet every training preference, schedule, and budget, we'd like You to help us choose which class to offer. The survey will take about 5 min and will help us narrow down which class is best to meet the needs of as many students as possible. Important: It's best to narrow your options early in the survey if you can. Otherwise, you get a LOT of options to choose to from! Thanks So Much For Your Help! #ForDogsSake There are two different formats that most of our teams prefer. Please review them both to see which one you would prefer and let us know! Intensive Format: “Detailed Skills and Scenario-based Learning” For those wanting a more comprehensive hands-on and scenario experience, along with benefits of a diversified instructor cadre, K9 MEDIC® offers the Intensive format, our most commonly requested format. With just 5 students per instructor, we start with small group skills stations increasing each student’s access to instructors and increasing their repetitions to gain mastery. Primary interventions are repeated until students can do them, literally, blindfolded in a SoloX scenario, where the student has the undivided attention of an instructor so that we can ensure each student has very good hands-on skills before we release them into scenario (thus decreasing the likelihood of ‘training scars’ so often created in scenarios unless intentionally designed out of trainings. Next we move into basic learning scenarios to put the skills into context before finally moving into difficult problem solving scenarios where we can evaluate the culmination of knowledge, skills, and problem solving all at once. Scenarios are customized to the medical scope, equipment, and mission profile of each team. For example, we have different scenarios for our Tactical, Wilderness, Disaster, EMS, etc teams. Finally, the increased ratio means that all classes have 3 or more multidisciplinary instructors including Veterinary professionals, experienced paramedics, and field-savvy K9 Handlers, typically chosen to match the demographics of the students themselves. The three-day version of this format is our most often requested program, as it allows for a steady progression of knowledge and skills development and layering over multiple days. It has a great deal of hands-on experience which students love and delivers excellent outcomes for long-term care of K9s. The three-day version also satisfies the requirements for the Train-the-Trainer prerequisite.Intensive Format – Lab Stations Add-on:Finally, for students who want the most realistic learning experience we offer an Ethically Sourced Cadaver Lab Add-on. While optional for all students, over decades of training we have found that all students have elected to complete this portion and have found it incredibly valuable. Experiential Format:“Solid Skill Development” With a teaching ratio of 10 students / instructor and the addition of K9 Veterinary task trainers, this format offers the ability for students to develop solids skills. We teach procedure curriculum that have been verified across thousands of students and we focus on particular field skills, specific to each different audience, ensuring that each student has accurate muscle memory long after the class is complete. For medics, each station is designed to build on existing knowledge and translation of human medical skills to the canine anatomy. Depending on the class, skills may include IV/IO, intubation, sx airways and decompressions. For handlers, we build upwards. Assessment skills are on live dogs and go beyond basic vitals, teaching students how to conduct ongoing observations and trending through typical work cycles to identify and prevent injuries and illness early in development. This format also includes “Walk and Talk” scenarios. In small groups, we get out of the classroom and on our feet as physically walk through the different topics such as Heat Emergencies and/or Trauma responses. These small group hands-on scenarios creating more discussion, engagement, social learning and retention. Plus, it’s more real-world, which is always a good thing! While it does cover all the primarily learning objectives, it is a lot of information in a short period of learning. In contrast, the 3 Day Course provides a more comprehensive learning program, with more time available for a less rushed, more interactive, and retention-based learning. Most students report a preference for the 3 Day class as it is… Less compressed/rushed with more time allotted for example videos, discussions, and in-depth shock profiles Includes a wider set of topics such as more trauma profiles (eviscerations etc) and equipment discussions. More scenario-based including human/K9, multi-K9, live-demo-dog scenarios Greater ability to flex schedule to address the unique needs, experiences, and assets of each specific team The 3-Day Intensive Format satisfies the prerequisite to enter our K9 MEDIC Train-the-Trainer academy. If you are considering a 1 Day or less class, those are typically specific topics. For examples we sometimes teach a Heat clinic workshop.Duration 3 Day Class 2 Day Class Duration 1 Day Class Final Costs based on your previous selections: Which Class(es) are best for Your Team3 Day Intensive + Lab Cost: 3-Day Intensive + Ethically Sourced Cadaver Lab (5 students/instructor, full scenarios, advanced mannikins): $1290/student. 3 Day Intensive Cost: 3-Day Intensive (5 students/instructor, full scenarios, advanced mannikins): $1090/student. 2 Day Intensive Cost: 2-Day Intensive (5 students/instructor, full scenarios with advanced mannikins): $890/student. 3 Day Experiential Cost: 3-Day Experiential (10 students/instructor basic scenarios): $750/student. 2 Day Experiential Cost: 2-Day Experiential (10 students/instructor basic scenarios): $600/student.
